Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.
This was the 4th year that Nick and I have participated in Earth Hour and love doing it. Earth hour started in 2007 and has become the largest grass roots movement in the world. Last year over 128 countries joined the global display- including iconic buildings including... but not limited to.... The Eiffel Tower (yes- crazy to believe even these types of buildings went dark for Earth Hour), The Golden Gate Bridge, The Acropolis and the Parthenon in Athens, El Angel in Mexico City, The Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, the Great Pyramids of Giza and many many more.
This video explains it all.
